Woman Fight Gender War At Nigeria’s Confab

While adopting the rules of procedure yesterday one issue that kept recurring is that of gender. A delegate from women council observed that the conference wasn’t gender-sensitive.

Thereafter, Senator Daisy Danjuma rose and introduced herself as coming in the “elder statesman” ‎category. She made her intervention and sat down.

But when Mrs. Josephine Anenih stood up, she said she is from “elder states woman” ‎category which drew laughter. She stood her ground saying that the rules are gender-biased, saying that there should be amendment to words and phrases such as ‘he’ in the rules with ‘she’.

When she was reminded that there is explanatory section of the rules where ‘he’ is meant to include ‘she’, she argued that the case needed to be reversed, or simply ‘it’ should be used as neutral gender.

‎All market women representatives, women groups rose in her support before the matter was settled down with adoption of the status quo.
