Loosing weight is best achieved by building muscles

I had to watch a few episodes of slim possible before I wrote this article and I have to start by saying: Lillian Muli Kanene is a good looking woman, from the heart of her bottom to the bottom of her chest. Eye candy so good my eyes got cavities. With that stated, I also have to add that looks don’t always come with brains and beauty and folly are old companions.

Most of her show (slim possible) is founded on very shady doctrine. Very little sound science is included in the making of the show. Exercise and fitness at its very core is a complete and complex science, correctly called kinesiology.

Either MrsKanene does not know this or her show is just built to torture a bunch of poor overweight people and or make her feel good about herself;typical behaviour of skinny women who used to be overweight. Left to her own devices I think she’d weigh the contestants in grams just to make herself look good.

Now this is one of those articles I can write with some academic authority. In college I took a class called Anthropometry and kinanthropometry by Dr V. OnyweraPhD. In Lillian’s show she literary breaks every rule I learnt in that class.

On the show contestants are eliminated based on their weight. If there’s anything I learnt, weight is a very fickle measure. Try this: stand on a scale and take your weight then hold your arms up over your head. Get off the scale, take a litre of water, then get back on. Now go to the loo and make a large bowel movement then weigh again. On each of these occasions you shall get a different reading of weight measure.

In my educated opinion (I’ve always wanted to say that) Lilian awards the least active performers and disqualifies the hardest workers. How you ask? Now if you’ve watched the show regularly you’ve noticed that the men on the show lose less weight than their female counter parts. This is because male hormones cause them to build more muscle. Muscle outweighs fat at a ratio of almost two to one. Building muscle is the most effective way to burn fat. The contestants working the hardest build the most muscle and are put up for eviction and together with the publicly humiliating eviction Lillian will still attempt to interview the contestants while they’re choking on tears (like in last Saturday’s episode).

I just can’t finish this article like that. I have to give Lillian some free advice, but only because I like her curves, I don’t usually give advice for free.

Instead of happily announcing unhealthy weight loss figures (I highly doubt a weight loss of three kilos in a week is anything near healthy) and disqualifying hard workers. The show would reflect hard work better as an index of several measures, body fat that is measured using a bio-electric impedance test. Aerobic capacity measured using an array of measures from twelve minute runs, half mile tests or the more ubiquitous bleep test and various explosive strength and girth measures.
