Kaduna — Wife of the Vice President Hajiya Amina Namadi Sambo has lamented that though women have been participating in trades and other ventures, they have not made much impact because they are largely hidden in the informal sector.
This is coming as the Customs Officers’ Wives Association (COWA) through its skills acquisition trainees programme empowered 106 women including widows as part of efforts to help the less privileged in the society in Kaduna.
Speaking at the graduation and empowerment of COWA members and foundation laying ceremony of COWA ZONE ‘B’ Kaduna office secretariat, Hajiya Amina, represented by the wife of the governor of Kaduna State, Hajiya Fatima Muktar Ramalan Yero, said the fact that computer literacy is one of the skills impacted on the 106 graduands, shows that the association is mindful of the challenges of the times.
“It is gladdening to note that COWA is keeping its members in tune with global trend, which is a welcome development and has show that women have woken up from their slumber to actively participate in nations building. On her part, the National President of the association, Hajiya Sa’adiya Abdullahi Dikko said the gesture will impact positively on the lives of its members and the society at large.
“The gradation of 106 trainees and the laying of the foundation of an ultra-modern COWA ZONE B headquarters with skills acquisition center shows hard work and dedication to the course of the less privileged by the zone,” she noted.
