A network to fight Female Genital Mutilation and child marriages has been formed in Narok county. The move was initiated yesterday by Tasaru Ntomonok Girls Rescue headed by Agnes Pareiyo and Chris Murray.
The group comprises teachers, religious leaders, children officers, the Judiciary, Community Based Organisations, journalists, police and chiefs. The group will teach the communities the effects of FGM and child marriages which are rampant in the county. Pareiyo said FGM is a criminal offence and it violates the rights of women and girls.
She said the practice is unacceptable. Pareiyo said the local communities should be involved in the campaign and law enforcement agencies should ensure culprits punished.
