Keep quiet! Head down! Be decent.  Modest! Don’t talk back! Go to the kitchen where you belong! Cover up! Dress down! Do you think you are smart enough for school?! Do as he says! Don’t question the man ! How dare you raise your voice? Sit down! Be pretty! Slut ! Holy Mary ! Close your legs! Open your legs ! Don’t you have any shame?! Don’t tell anybody ! Beating , battering , molestation , genital mutilation , abduction, child marriage, girl trafficking….and the list goes on. Over the centuries gender-based violence has camouflaged under many many forms but it still retains its most fundamental and infamous objective ‘granting every one but the woman the right to dictate her own life’.

Very few women throughout contemporary history have dared to break this hex of male dominated control . Women are told to live their lives in compliance with the man and societal impositions in regards to their outlook and approach to life whether or not they agree with this reasoning. It seems as if the sole aim of the woman is to reproduce offsprings for the man and are to be subject to hisbeck and call be it in a social setting or in the confinement of their home. This is such a norm that other women castigate women for choosing to live lives which are contrary to the one’s set out before them.

We are in the 21st century now and though women are finally claiming and standing up for their rights …we still see sexual objectification of women on our screens…our girls are still abducted as in the case of chibok girls…girls are still trafficked …their lands are pillaged …their skins are terrorist grounds …their minds are war zones …their scars a testament to the sins of their molesters…they peel open every time a mother …an aunty …a sister…decides to ignore the pungent smell oozing from them..their hearts flood every time they are hit…abused …

We all have a duty. To preserve and protect the crystals that are our girls. Against misogynistic and sexist predators who enjoy mining in these sacred lands . We have to educate our girls and increasingly grant them the right to education. A woman equipped with knowledge will never be subject to violence. Women need to unite …as sisters…and protect each other…we must begin to instill in the minds of our daughters how to love and own their bodies and their lives with no apology. Their bodies are theirs and theirs alone. We need to raise our sons to respect and honour women…Women who are the foundation of a nation…a Nation…

A woman might be submissive but she is definitely not subservient .

“We need to raise our sons to respect and honour women…Women who are the foundation of a nation…a Nation”……. This I believe can drastically reduce rape, might sound slow or irrelevant, but believe me…… It’ll help….. Parents….. All in your hands…. Remember…. It can happen to your daughter
